C’tee ChangesThe committee has been pretty much the same for several years and now we see some changes. Theja is moving to Auckland for work, Ros is also adapting to work changes and Su Mon is stepping down as Treasurer. The Treasurer’s role is one of the busiest and Su Mon has held the position far beyond the initially agreed term. That she is staying on the c’tee is a great boon for us. We sincerely thank Theja, Ros and Su Mon for all their time and work. Anumodana.
Venerable IssaroVenerable has been with us for several weeks now and will leave for Bodhinvana Monastery in Melbourne for the vassa. His visit has been enjoyed by many and we wish him well and look forward to seeing him again.
VassaBegins with the full moon of July – the 20th. A period of monastic retreat. Most scheduled public activities will continue unchanged; check the calendar. You are always welcome to visit during the day. Guest accommodation is very limited. See: vassa retreat for details.
Meditation OpportunitiesMeditation Workshop; 1st Saturday of the month: 1–5pm City Meditation; 1st Monday of the month: 6–8pm, Quaker House, 7 Moncrieff St. Sunday Evening; tea at 5 chanting and meditation at 6pm Every morning & evening puja; 5:15am & 7pm Lunar Observance; weekly. Check the website calendar. Vassa Group Retreat; 23–30th July. Some accommodation available. Right Now.
August RetreatThis 10-day event has been held during the vassa for the previous two years. There has been good support but with a couple of uncertain visas it looks like there will only be two monks here for this vassa and the thought was not to have the extra work of running a retreat. Also our retreat manager now has a full-time job (vacancy..!). You are most welcome to join the group retreat at the start of the vassa; 23–30th July. There won’t be quite as much structure or teaching as a normal retreat but plenty of hours to meditate with a group. Accommodation is very limited so book early.
DormitoryThe development under the workshop is now weather proof with usage designation now: furniture store /dormitory with the later as the more popular. Current cost estimate suggests it will offer the area of four kutis for just over half the price of one. Electrics are done, thanks to venerable Issaro, and it just needs insulating and lining. Painting and decorating may wait until after vassa. The project has also created a very useful storage area on the east side. view photos
DanasMost of you probably know that you are always welcome to come and offer dana at the monastery; around the meal is the most common time. The meal offering is open to all but many of you may not know that there is a roster of those who particularly want to come on a specific day; birthdays, death anniversaries, etc.. This roster is generally managed through our coordinators: Yashodara (Sri Lankan), Sukhanya (Thai), Khin (Burmese) and Aunty Suan in our kitchen here. There are plenty of gaps – commonly filled by spontaneous arrivals – and you could easily fill one or two. Contact the monastery office. The roster and specific contact info will (should 🙂 be on the website shortly.
