Super SundayJuly 17th, an 11 hour run, beginning at 9:30 with the start of Khao Pansa. Considering all the other monasteries were also celebrating on this day we were delighted to have nearly 100 people join us to welcome the start of the vassa. A very joyful gathering.
It was then pretty much straight into the AGM. Also well attended with a very friendly, harmonious atmosphere. The primary business was the election of the committee. There were some changes with Theja and Ros not standing and Su Mon stepping down as Treasurer but staying on the c’tee. We were delighted to welcome Sachini Wijesekera as treasurer and Nuk Thompson as secretary.
A five minute pause for breath then a financial meeting to facilitate the treasurer’s transition. We are also lucky to have Hwa and Carrol, both accountants, offering time so there was much discussion on role definition and sharing of duties.
A 40 minute break. Whew.! Then tea with guests and on into evening puja. After a day of busy but joyful and generous meetings the evening theme of “Gladdening the Heart” seemed appropriate.
Little PigThe hermitage kuti has seen several changes with one of the warmer ones being the addition of a wood stove – dubbed ‘The little Pig.’ All piped up and ready for vassa hermits. view photos
Group RetreatTo get the vassa rolling we are having a week of meditation, practicing together as a group. The schedule will be much the same as a regular retreat. You are welcome to join us for any part of that. July 23-30th.
DanasThe meal-offering dana roster is a thing of gracious generosity that represents a steady stream of kindness. There are often questions about who is offering and what days are free so we have started an online calendar This roster is managed by our coordinators: Yashodara (Sri Lankan), Sukhanya (Thai), Khin (Burmese) and Aunty Suan in our kitchen here. This page still requires work and until we get a dana-contact form you can contact the monastery office. Anumodana to all of you who support this.
BirthdaysBruce = 65 and Aunty Suan = 70. Old? Who said anything about old? Cake? Who said anything about cake? We wish them – and all beings – happiness and well being.
