Ajahn Ariyasilo:Some of you may remember this monk from when he was living here during the ’90s. He is currently in Auckland and we are organising a visit for him to spend some time here. At the moment suggested dates are the 15th to 27th of April. We look forward to having him here and to sharing some of his dhamma.
Kids Dhamma:We had the first meeting for this year in the dana sala. It is hoped to have a regular report on activities on the Events>Youth page. You can view the first of these:here It is hoped that there will be more children for the next gathering – April 21st, 12:30 to 2:00. The more kids there are the more energy goes into planning and activities. The more energy the more impactful and the more fun.
Sala By-pass:Work continues with planting and surfacing. Several people have helped with this project and their efforts are very visible. The recent rain we have had has damped things down nicely helping to compact the earth and water the plants. view photos Drainage and surfacing continues. As I write I can hear the sound of the quad delivering gravel.
Day-long Retreat:This was very well attended and was appreciated by all present. Events like this bring a new group of people to the monastery and, hopefully, extends the breadth of the community of those interested in meditation. view photos
Meditation Workshops:Just a reminder that these are on the 1st AND 3rd Saturday of each month – 1pm start. Suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators. Its best to come for the full afternoon but you are welcome to join according to your schedule limitations.
Songkran:Songkran is a term derived from the Sanskrit ‘sankranti’ and refers to the traditional New Year celebrated in Southeast Asian countries when the sun transits the constellation of Aries, the first astrological sign in the Zodiac, as reckoned by sidereal astrology. Water is involved ๐ – most respectfully bathing the monastery Buddha statues and the hands of the monks – and other libations. April 14th – 9.45am start.
