Kathina Season:2ND NOVEMBER. The offering of robe cloth is a key element of the monastic life. Making this offering at the end of the vassa is a tradition established by the Buddha nearly 2600 years ago and it is celebrated every year in monasteries throughout the world. We come together to celebrate our community at many levels. Monks from many monasteries will be joining us for this occasion and you are all welcome. 9:30am start. One of the stalls this year will have a “Buddha to be Shined”…
Buddha Shining:The lovely Buddha rupa intended for the entrance of the dana sala has been sitting in a very neglected garden outside the monks’ vihara for many years. It is dull and drab. It needs some loving care and attention and will be sitting waiting for *you* on our Kathina-season celebration day with some metal polish and cleaning cloths. EVERYONE can help make the Buddha shine! see the ‘before’ view photos.
The New View:The forest grows as the Dhamma sala ages. Buildings needs sun and air and the back corner has been slowly covered by vegetation. The corner of the deck is quite rotted. Doctor Mathew to the rescue! And now, not only is there light and space but there is a view of the river. view photos
Storage:Pretty boring really but the new order and tidiness makes a real difference. The back sala store has extra shelving and the old ‘security’ room in the kitchen pantry is also providing extra storage space. Simple stuff like getting all the lightbulbs in one place makes it easier. view photos
Big Buddha:This will take some time in the planning but the seed is there view photos. Have a look at the space when you come for our Kathina-season celebration and let Ajahn have your thoughts. Where will the image come from? What will it be made of? Will it be in the open or inside a pavillion? Landscaping around it? Big Buddha – Big Project.
