July 5th CelebrationSunday, July 5th, 9:45am. This is the full moon of Asalha Puja, the beginning of the vassa. As this will be our first community gathering for 2020 there are so many other reasons to celebrate. It will be a delight to see you all.
Annual General MeetingThis was held last Sunday and went very smoothly. It was especially notable that almost all of the presentations held multiple expressions of thanks. The monastery has no issues, no problems, no tangled politcal agendas… all is well. The community was re-elected with the only change being Kim Send as secretary. Thank you to Nuk for her generous two-year term. There is a group photo (less Aru) and the minutes of the meeting will be posted shortly along with previous minutes
Samanera OrdinationWe have still yet to set a date for Anagarika Jet’s samanera ordination but we have agreed on his new name ‘Samanera Appamado.’ It means: thoughtfulness, carefulness, conscientiousness, diligence, earnestness, zeal. “Just as the footprints of all living beings are surpassed by the footprint of the elephant, and the footprint of the elephant is considered as the mightiest amongst them, just so, all the meritorious qualities have diligence (appamada) as their foundation, and appamada is considered as the mightiest of these qualities.” (A. X, 15).
