Children’s Dhamma:Is there interest in a regular dhamma class for children at the B. (Bodhinyanarama)? See last weeks update. There were only 2 replies to this which is not very encouraging.
Boundaries:Also following on from last week’s update… It has been known for a while that one of our walking tracks enters onto council land. A recent meeting with Hutt City Reserves’ Manager made it clear that a land swap is relatively easy; it is mostly a matter of agreeing where to draw the lines. Have a look at the map to get an idea of what is being considered.
Pine trees:There have been several discussions with Hutt City Parks & Gardens and the Dept. of Conservation regarding the pine trees on monastery property. The general consensus is that, for the health of the regenerating native forest, they are best removed. This can be a very costly process and various approaches are being considered. Some of the older ones pose an immediate safety threat and will be dealt with relatively soon. Most likely a staged program will be developed to deal with the remainder.
Magha Puja:Sometimes called “Sangha Day” this commemorates the spontaneous gathering of 1,250 arahants with the Buddha. It was on this occasion that the Buddha delivered the “Ovada Patimokkha” which is recited by monks on every uposatha. The full moon is on Monday but we will celebrate on Sunday 24th.
Carpark:We have accepted a quote to seal the monastery driveway and upper carpark area. This work will begin in March and we will try to minimise the inconvenience for visitors. As part of this work the community will be finishing the fence along driveway side of the kitchen building. view photos
