3rd August 2023

AGMThe Annual General Meeting was held a few weeks ago and all went very smoothly. This is very much a reflection of the overall tone of the monastery; there is not much happening. The committee was re-elected with the various reports given and these, along with the general minutes, will be posted on the website soon. There is a link to all AGM minutes at the bottom of the ‘about>history’ page.

VassaThe sangha has determined the vassa for 2023 and will maintain a somewhat reduced schedule for the next three months. To simplify things the meditation workshop on the 3rd Saturday of each month has been suspended, along with the city meditation on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
The 1st Saturday of the month meditation workshop will continue: 1.00–5.00 as will the regular Sunday program: meditation 1.30–4.30 + evening puja 6.00. Morning and evening pujas on other days at 5.15 and 7.00.
The resident community will be taking self-retreats on a rotation basis so if you might wonder ‘where are they?’ most likely they will be on retreat. This opportunity is so appreciated and is largely possible because of your continuing support of the monastery. Sadhu, anumodana.
Mostly things will continue as normal and you are most welcome to come at any time; meditate in the hall, circumambulate the stupa, have a cup of tea, read, go for a walk, join for the meal.

Community RetreatThe resident community will have a group meditation retreat through until Wednesday 9th evening. The schedule: morning puja + 8.30–10.30 + 1.30–4.30 + evening puja. If you have the time it is a good opportunity to develop your meditation practice in a stable and continuous environment.

CommunityIt is not uncommon for there to be a pre-vassa shuffle and various factors now see the Bodhinyanarama sangha with four monks and one anagarika. Ajahn Pasada has returned to Sri Lanka and unfortunately Ajahn Anuttalo’s mum had a stroke so he has returned to Thailand to be with family; hopefully back some time after vassa. We are back to four lay residents. Ajahn Kusalacitto and venerable Kavidhaja have determined vassa at Vimutti monastery in Auckland.

Kathina Season CelebrationNow that we are in a more direct relationship with ATBA and Vimutti monastery, this year there will be two combined post-vassa celebrations. The Bodhinyanarama sangha will travel to Auckland on November 2nd for the Vimutti celebration on the 5th. The full sangha will then travel back to Wellington on the 7th for our celebration on the 12th.
To be clear:
Bodhinyanarama Kathina Season Celebration (PaPah) – Nov. 12th 9.45
